3.0   Member Registration

In order to benefit from some features of this website, you may be required to first become a Member by completing and submitting our registration form. During registration, you will be asked for your contact information (such as your name and email address). This information is used to contact you about the services, products, and offers available through our site.

It is optional for you to provide demographic information (such as income level and gender), and unique identifiers, but encouraged so we can provide a more personalized experience on our site for you.

Sometimes we cannot tell your gender by the spelling of your name alone and having you tell us this can save us from some embarrassment if we need to contact you.

Your birth date (if you choose to disclose it to us) helps us determine if you are old enough to use our site according to our Terms of Use and to comply with the regulations set forth in the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Your contact phone number(s) and e-mail address allow us to get in touch with you if there is a problem with the fulfillment of an order you have placed or if we think you may be having a problem or question with placing an order.

Your IP address may also be recorded during registration and subsequent updates to your information.

All new members receive a welcoming email to verify their password and username.

5.0   Order

If you make a purchase directly from our website (and not through a third-party vendor), we request information from you on our order form. Here you provide us with contact information (like your name, e-mail, and shipping address). This information is used for billing purposes and to fill your orders. Some of this information is required to be sent securely (see Security section below) to our payment processor, in order to process your payment. If we have trouble processing your order, this contact information will be used to get in touch with you.

6.0   Cookies

A cookie is a small text file placed on your computer that a particular website places there when you visit it. The website may read the cookie it placed on your computer the next time you view a page from that site and use it to enhance your browsing experience (such as remembering a preference of yours). Allowing a Web site to create a cookie on your computer does not give that or any other site access to the rest of your computer, and only the site that created the cookie can read it.

We use cookies to know which users are logged into the site, what shopping cart belongs to them, etc. By allowing cookies from our site, you will be able to log into and make purchases from our site. If you reject the cookie, you may still browse our site. If you do this, though, you will be limited in some areas of our site. Cookies can also enable us to track and target the interests of our users and make our site better for everyone.

Some of our business partners may use cookies on our site (for example, advertisers). However, we have no access to or control over these cookies.

7.0   Log Files

We use IP addresses to analyze trends, administer the site, track users' movement, and gather broad demographic information for aggregate use.

When you visit our web site, we collect information about your visit that does not directly identify you personally. If you do nothing during your visit but browse through the web site, read pages, or download information, we may automatically collect and store the following information about your visit:

  • The internet domain (for example, "" if you use a private internet access account, or "" if you connect from a university's domain) and IP address (an IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are surfing the web) from which you access our web site;
  • The type of browser and operating system used to access our site;
  • The date and time you access our site;
  • The pages you visit; and
  • If you linked to our web site from another web site, the address and URL of that web site (which may contain the search keywords that you entered).

We use the information we collect to count the number of hits and type of visitors to the different pages on our site, and to help us make our site more useful to visitors like you. These types of information may be retained indefinitely. Your IP address is recorded when you browse, register, subscribe, and/or login and may be used to indirectly identify you personally and monitor your activity through the site.

8.0   Sharing

We may share aggregated demographic information with our partners and advertisers. Any aggregated information shared with these third-parties will not be linked to any personal information that can identify any individual person.

Additionally, we may be required by law to share information we collect with authorized law enforcement, homeland security, and national security activities.

We encourage you to be aware of this and, when you leave our site, to read the privacy statements of each and every web site that collects personally identifiable information. This privacy statement applies solely to information collected by ProtoQuest, Inc. through the website.

10.0   Third-Party Email Services

In delivering our e-mail communications to our Members and/or Subscribers, we may use the services of a third-party mailing list manager. The personal information disclosed to this service (if used) will be for the purpose of handling the technical transmission of e-mail messages from ProtoQuest, Inc. to you.

^ Back to Table of Contents ^

11.0   Surveys & Contests

From time-to-time our site may request information from you via surveys or contests. Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary and you therefore have a choice as to whether or not you want to disclose this information. Information requested may include contact information (such as name and shipping address), and demographic information (such as zip code, age level). Contact information will be used to notify the winners and award prizes. Survey information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction of this site.

12.0   Tell-A-Friend

If you elect to use our referral service for informing a friend of yours about our site, we will ask you for your name, your email address, your friend's name, and your friend's email address. ProtoQuest, Inc. will automatically send your friend a one-time email inviting them to visit the site. ProtoQuest, Inc. stores this information for the sole purpose of sending this one-time email. Your friend may contact our Privacy Policy Coordinator at to request the removal of this information from our database.

13.0   Security

When you submit sensitive information via the website, your information is protected both online and off-line.

If our order form asks you to enter sensitive information (such as a credit card number), that information is encrypted and is protected with the industry standard for protecting private information sent over the internet - Secure Socket Layers (SSL). SSL encrypts, or scrambles your information into a code so that others cannot read your information during transmission. While on a secure page, such as our order form, the lock icon appearing on most Web browsers becomes locked, or closed, as opposed to un-locked, or open, when you are just visiting a page that does not need to be secure. Also, the beginning part of the web page address will change from "http:" to "https:" while you are on a secure page.

It is possible that a web page on another website showing the lock icon has been incorrectly coded by an inexperienced programmer to submit your personal information insecurely. Conversely, it is also possible to be on a web page without the lock icon showing and have it correctly submit your information securely. The only way to tell is by viewing the source code of the page and verifying that the form is being submitted to an "https:" address and not just "http:".

If you see a form collecting personal information on our website that does not show the lock icon, you can verify that we are correctly and securely submitting your form data by viewing the source code of the page.

While we use SSL encryption to protect sensitive information online, we also protect user-information off-line. All of our users' information, not just the sensitive information mentioned above, has password restricted access from our offices. Only employees and service providers who need the information to perform a specific job (for example, our billing clerk, customer service representative, or system administrator) are granted access to personally identifiable information. All employees are kept up-to-date on our security and privacy practices.

14.0   Special Offers

Members and Subscribers may occasionally receive information on products, services, special deals, and a newsletter. Out of respect for the privacy of our users we present the option to not receive these types of communications. Please see our choice and opt-out below.

^ Back to Table of Contents ^

15.0   Site and Service Updates

We also send you site and service announcement updates. Members are not able to un-subscribe from service announcements, which contain important information about the service. We communicate with you to provide requested services and in regards to issues relating to your account via email or phone.

16.0   Correcting/Updating Personal Information

If your personally identifiable Member information changes (such as your zip code, or address), you may correct or update your personal data provided to us. This may be done by logging into the site and following the directions after clicking on the "Edit Your Information" link in the MEMBERS navigation box. This link is only visible while you are logged into the website.

^ Back to Table of Contents ^

17.0   Choice/Opt-out

You are given the opportunity to 'opt-out' of having your information used for purposes not directly related to our site at the point where we ask for the information.

If you no longer wish to receive our newsletter or other promotional materials sent by us on behalf of us or our partners, you may opt-out of receiving these communications.

Members can opt-out by un-checking the box "Subscribe to our mailing list" in your Member Information. To change this setting, log into the site and click on the "Edit Your Information" link in the MEMBERS navigation box. When your Member Information shows up, un-check this box and then click on the "Update" button. We will update your record accordingly.

Subscribers can opt-out by following the instructions included in each e-mail communication we send to them.

Please note that if you have subscribed or registered as a Member to more than one of ProtoQuest, Inc.'s websites and subsequently desire to unsubscribe from all of them, you will need to unsubscribe from each of them individually by following the instructions contained in an e-mail communication from each of the websites you have subscribed to. Unsubscribing from one of our websites does not cancel your subscription with any of our other websites. You may continue to receive e-mail communications from our other websites that you have subscribed to until you have unsubscribed from all of them individually.

^ Back to Table of Contents ^

18.0   Sale of this Website or its Owner

In the event of the sale of the business unit, or the complete sale of ProtoQuest, Inc., the new owners will own the information collected through this site. This is the only provision in our privacy policy for the "selling" of personal data provided to us and is understandably necessary for the new owners to continue providing the service.

^ Back to Table of Contents ^

19.0   Notification of Changes

If we decide to change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on this page so you are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. If at any point we decide to use personally identifiable information in a manner materially different from that stated at the time it was collected, and you have registered as a Member or Subscriber with the site, we will notify you by way of an email. You will have a choice as to whether or not we use your information in this different manner. If you decide that you do not want us to use your information in this different manner, we will use your information in accordance with the privacy policy under which your information was collected.
